Trek Leader Course (TLC) 16 Day Programme

Is this course for me?

TLC is an absolute entry level course and is aimed at men and women from remote and rural areas of Himalayan states. It is taught in Hindi and is meant to help the underprivileged youth with a career option.

 

On successful completion of the course, participants receive:

 

- Hanifl Centre Diploma

- Written Course Evaluation

- Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Certification (2 year validity)

- Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification (2 year validity)

The Trek Leader Course (TLC) is a pioneering effort which has been offered since 2012

 

Leadership - Different leadership styles and roles are discussed. Being able to choose the right leadership style for specific situations is a skill. Active Followership (a sign of a good leader) is also a skill that will be addressed, besides Conflict Management, Expedition Behaviour, Decision Making, Risk Management, Communication, Etiquette in dealing with clients, and more.

 

Outdoor Skills - Backpack packing, campsite selection, tent pitching, staying warm & dry, cooking & stove use will be taught and discussed on a daily basis. Leave No Trace Ethics (LNT), Environmental appreciation (Flora, Fauna & local Culture), Equipment care and Maintenance, Hygiene, Wilderness First Aid (WFA) with Adult & Child Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Ropes, knots, anchors & anchor systems are the other subjects that will be taught.

Course Duration: 16 Days | 06 Days at Hanifl Centre + 10 Days on a Field Expedition

Hanifl Centre, India’s leading institution for outdoor education and environmental study has collaborated with Aerie Backcountry Medicine, USA to conduct Wilderness First Aid Courses (WFA/WAFA/WFR) with Adult & Child Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification in India.

 

Aerie Backcountry is recognised by the American Outdoor industry and has worked with organisations like WMA and WMI of NOLS in the USA specialising in wilderness medicine and under the guidance of the Wilderness Medicine Society, evolved a Scope of Practice (SoP) for the different courses.

 

Our instructors are professional who have WEMT/ WFR level training with many years of outdoor leadership experience.

PROGRAMME & SCHEDULE:

Module Length: (130 hours + WFA 16 hrs + CPR 4 hrs)

DAY 1 - Course orientation, expectations & guidelines. WFA*

DAY 2 - Ropes and knots. Anchor systems & rappelling. WFA*

DAY 3 - Ropes & knots & Anchors systems. WFA*

DAY 4 - Belaying and lowering of an injured person, Tyrolean Traverse. WFA*

DAY 5 - Tyrolean Traverse. WFA*

DAY 6 - Travel to road head: Begin trek. WFA*

DAY 7 to 14 - 8 days / nights on a trek. Outdoor skills and leadership. WFA*

DAY 15 - Travel back to Hanifl Centre – return equipment & clean up; CPR class

DAY 16 - Evaluation and Graduation

*Wilderness First Aid curriculum will be taught over the duration of the course (minimum 16 hours)

 

We limit the group size to 20 in order to make the course effective.

Recertification for WFA involves undertaking the full course again after two years.
